But does the HQ recording play back in other DVD machines, including play only DVD machines?

I hear the "-R" DVD's are supposed to be better,
    but don't ask me why!

I'm real interested in the DVD recorders that have built in hard drives, but those are the ones that apparently don't have interchangeability with other DVD decks in the HQ mode (top quality), meaning they will play back HQ in the machine that created the DVD, but not other brands.

But then you can take that HQ DVD and copy it at your local DVD copy place, go figure.

<font size="2" face="verdana, sans-serif">+R and -R are the same quality wise. Compatability varies but is pretty equal. My 1997 RCA dvd player will play these DVD+R discs but it won't play DVD-R or CD-R. Saying that -R is better clearly says to me that the person has already invested in -R equipment. But +RW is definitely more versatile than -RW.

Don't get too hung up on HQ mode. SP looks the same when feeding the recorder a high quality signal (at least on this APEX it did).
